Pekomikon 2009

I will be attending as a panel in Pekomikon 2009 at PWTC KL this Saturday, April 25th (tomorrow) and will be giving a talk on my experience working outside Malaysia, and how I springboard my career in comics internationally.

I'm bringing some work in progress stuff and behind the scene materials exclusively for the presentation. My session starts at 11:30 AM to noon.

Hope to see you there.

O.I.C Portrait Day Interview

Uhm, I was interviewed by O.I.C on Portrait Day event: [Link]

What do you look forward to at "PORTRAIT DAY"?

For me, it's the diverse participants for portraiture and ultimately able to see how different artists work.
The former is the excitement when you see facial features that really challenge your “eye-brain-hand” coordination. The latter is relatively a reason for me to engage in the discourse of influencing and be influenced in my creative process. Finally the chicks... Hey at least I'm honest about it.

How do you make your session fruitful?

By having my drawings sold! Hehe, naw, by being able to capture likeness within the given time slot, and having satisfying results by means of visually significant output.

What is your absolute fave tool at the sessions?

I'm more of a "use whatever you have at that moment" if not "use the cheapest most crappiest tool and make the best out of it" kind of artist. A ballpoint pen would do for the base lines and I'd just use anything I can find in my pencil case for finishing touches then and there. Dried markers, highlighters, correction pen, magic pen, name it. No particular favourite.

What have you seen or learn from a fellow OICnik at such sessions?

That you guys are elite and carry fancy tools! Which is awesome, made me feel like a cheapskate! I'm amazed at how you guys can capture likeness and stay focused doing it the whole day. At some point in every session when I zone out, the results are always uneasy to my eyes.

Your favourite style of portraits or favourite portrait drawing of the moment.

Of course, Kent Williams' all the time!

O.I.C Figure Drawing @ Substation

Had a blast today at the Substation with fellow artists from O.I.C for a figure drawing session. I came in very tired after a whole week of non-stop work, yet the activity was so refreshing and fun that I managed to focus enough to get satisfying results. To my surprise, the model today was the same whom I drew back in 2007.

O.I.C Portrait Day Rejects

O.I.C Portrait Day takes place every first Saturday of the month at Red Dot Design Museum, Singapore. Random people sign up to be drawn, and if they like what they see at the display booth, they buy them. If not, it's all good - it's just an excuse for us artists to get together and draw the whole day.

These are some of the drawings that weren't sold. More can be found here.

ONLINE COMICS ONLINE

Retrojak is now online, and it's in English! Now you can read the series including issue #2 that was not published in 2005.

Intipati has it's own site now, too! I hope you'll find these comics if not that great, at least amusing to read :)
